I was talking about how all black people are considered African American, I'm not complaining about the title or anything, I was just wondering, you know...people from India aren't really thought of as Asian Americans, even though India is in Asia. Spanish people are considered Hispanic, not European American, though Spain is in Europe. Asians are divided into their repective subtypes...There are Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Phillipino, Vietnamese, and probably others too. Hispanics are divided into their respective subtypes, there are spanish, latinos, mexicans, puerto ricans; however most black people are just considered black people with the exception of maybe Jamaicans and Haitians. Here in America we don't really distinguish blacks whether they're from Mali, or Ghana or Kenya, or Zimbabwe, we just say African American. Now I'm not from Africa or anything...and I know that we probably don't really distinguish because of convenience or whatever reason the majority makes up, but I was just wondering why is that?
Another thing I was talking about...where are white people from? Have you ever seen Caucasia on the map? Is that a real place? How do white people just come and take over everything and they don't even have a home country. Where are yall from Caucasia isn't a place I've ever heard of, so where the hell did Caucasian come from? If they were from England, why not call themselves English or European or something? Where did "Caucasian" formulate? Inquiring minds wanna know.
Another thing...why are white and black people the only colors we use when talking about race? I mean if you call an Asian person Yellow, that's considered an insult, so why do black and whites continue to identify themselves as such? I mean...black isn't offensive to me, but in reality...shouldn't it? Especially for people who are like mixed or biracial. What do they think when they're called black or white or hispanic when they're a mix of two or more races? I've read about how mixed races feel forced to choose a race in order to feel accepted, but I don't really know to what extent because there is so much pressure on people to fit in, to be categorized...when you don't have to to feel included, just be you and you'll be fine.
