What am I referring to you might ask? I'm referring to racism... When is it going to end and when can we all live together in harmony? I'm not only talking about blacks and whites here, I'm talking about all races together. Racism isn't going to end just because Obama gets elected as president because believe it or not, white people aren't the only racists in the world. To change the world, we all have to change. There is a kid I work with at the treatment center who's prejudice. At first I didn't really care for him, but the more I got to know him, the more I realized that it's not him that's prejudice because he can play checkers with me, play football with another black kid, laugh at another staff member who's black. So is he really racist? Or is it the way he was brought up? That's where a lot of people go wrong. They raise their children to be racist just because they're racist when in reality, the way things happened when they grew up is completely different today. My grandmother R.I.P. wasn't the fondest of people of the caucasian persuasion, but because I had friends that were white, she didn't turn their nose up at them, in fact I think she even gave one of them a hug. It's that kind of acceptance that is going to change the world. I wasn't hindered from who I could and couldn't hang out with, so I appreciated everyone for who they were and not for the color of their skin. How can people just hate someone for the way they were born anyway? I was born black... give me a chance to show you that the experiences you had with less than reputable black people don't apply to me and I'll give you the chance to show that my experiences with less than reputable people of other races don't apply to you.
People always say, never judge a book by it's cover and that's the truth because one of the best books I've read "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" I almost didn't read because of the cover. I thought it was a book aimed at the female audience, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's so much easier to like someone than to hate someone just because of a biological occurrence. If you're going to hate someone, at least have a legit reason to do so and hate the PERSON not the entire race. If a white guy killed your brother, then hate that white guy not all white guys. If you got jumped by a group of people hate that group.
I have to pound it into some people's heads because they're so stuck in their upbringing that they just are so bitter and they don't even have a reason why they're racist, they just know what mommy and daddy said. Well... I'm sorry, but mommy and daddy aren't always right! You can't say that when you're 7-8 years old though because in my house you would've gotten popped in the mouth, but when you're 17-18 and you have a mind of your own you can express and defend who you like to be around and guess what, your parents can't stop you... they can be mad at you... but who can be mad at their child forever?
I'm just saying, people need an eye opener and the time is now. People as a whole need to come together and get over the petty differences that separate us because whether you like it or not, the other races are here to stay.. so get over it!

Agreed. Personally I think for the most part people are very tolerant of different races. At least here in Cali where im from. Im hispanic and I dont feel I get treated any different. But when I went to Harrisburg PA, that was a little different, felt a bit of animosity because I was brown. People need to grow up. Like you said, hate the gift not the wrapper.
